Overview Of Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Researcher to lead in Molecular Agroecology for the development of pest and disease control technologies, and management practices in crops, that value and sustain natural capital and ecosystem services. The position is available for 3 years, with the option to become permanent, and will be supported by a Research Technician.

The successful candidate will have strengths in agriculture, ecology and/ or molecular methods, with a good knowledge of insect pests and diseases. Your area of research will likely focus on the use of eDNA approaches applied to agricultural ecology to: (i) identify the full range and phenology of natural enemies of key crop pests, (ii) quantify the effect they have on pest and disease regulation (iii) understand their host/habitat interactions (needs) to enable them to survive and thrive (iv) define the population biology. The position carries a high expectation to work with industry and policymakers, and span UK and international collaborations. Some overseas travel will be expected.

You will be responsible for developing and leading research, grant winning, high impact academic publications, staff management, business planning and networking. The position demands excellent skill in written and oral communication, and the ability to influence a wide breadth of stakeholders. Experience of leading research projects and/ or a research team, demonstrating skills in project management and leadership, would be highly desirable. A PhD in a relevant discipline, a proven publication record and evidence of grant winning success are essential.

Candidates with less postdoctoral experience are encouraged to apply to be considered at the Research Scientist (Band E, ‘early leader’ level).

This is a full-time fixed term appointment initially for 3 years with with the possibility of extension. The salary will be dependent on skills and experience ranging from £37,890 – £41,438 p.a. (for Grade E) and £46,232 to £51,580 p.a. (for Grade F).
